2024 Summit Awards
The Summit Awards is an international competition for small (less than $4 million in billings) agencies. This year, they had 3,700 entries from 27 countries. I haven’t entered an advertising awards show in several years but being a one-man band and just for the sheer hell of it, I decided to enter three things I liked. And then . . .
A social media campaign I did for a local diner won a Gold.
My self-promotion campaign won a Silver.
And a best-idea-never-produced digital campaign I did for a buddy’s liquor store won a Bronze.
You can see them all here if you’re a mind to. Or not.
Tastee Diner - Social Media Campaign - Gold
The Tastee Diner is a family restaurant in Bethesda, Maryland. Bethesda is very gentrified with a large number of fancy, expensive restaurants. The Tastee Diner is none of that - not fancy and not expensive. It has been a Bethesda institution since 1935.
The Diner has no advertising budget, so I was limited to posts on their Facebook page. The goal is to remind readers what a genuine place The Diner is and differentiate it from the high-end restaurants that surround it. The posts were purposely not over-designed, since the Diner itself is not over-designed.
Circus Boy - Self-Promotion Integrated Campaign - Silver
You’ve probably seen most of this, but just in case . . .
Snail Mail
West Seattle Liquor & Wine - Best Idea Never Produced - Bronze
My grade-school buddy Jim has a high-end (read it: e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e) liquor store in Seattle and wanted some advertising help. He liked this digital campaign idea, but the two guys who work the register didn’t.
